Ingredients

Chicken Wings
  • 2 pounds chicken wings drumettes and flats
Marinade
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low sodium preferred
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon five spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch for coating
Oil for Frying
  • 4 cups vegetable oil or any neutral oil

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, five spice powder, and black pepper. Mix well.
  2. Add chicken wings to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for better flavor.
  3. After marinating, remove the wings from the refrigerator and sprinkle cornstarch over them. Toss to coat evenly.
Frying
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully add the wings in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Using tongs, remove the wings and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  4. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
