Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour unbleached
  • 1 cup whole milk warm, about 110°F/43°C
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter softened

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk with sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture and softened butter; mix until shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down gently, shape into a loaf, place in greased loaf pan, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes
