Masala Dosa

A popular South Indian breakfast dish made from fermented rice and lentil batter, filled with spiced potatoes.

Ingredients
  

Dosa Batter
  • 1 cup Rice Soaked for 4-6 hours
  • 1/4 cup Urad dal Soaked for 4-6 hours
  • 1/2 cup Water For blending
  • 1 tsp Salt To taste
Potato Filling
  • 2 medium Potatoes Boiled and mashed
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilies Chopped Adjust to taste
  • 1/4 cup Coriander leaves Chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp Oil For cooking

Method
 

Prepare Dosa Batter
  1. Blend soaked rice and urad dal with water to a smooth batter. Add salt and mix well. Let it ferment for 8-12 hours.
Prepare Potato Filling
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add onions and green chilies. Sauté until onions are translucent.
  2. Add turmeric powder and mashed potatoes. Mix well and cook for a few minutes. Stir in coriander leaves and remove from heat.
Cook Dosa
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet and pour a ladle of dosa batter. Spread it into a thin circle. Drizzle oil around the edges.
  2. Cook until the edges turn golden brown, then place a portion of potato filling in the center. Fold the dosa over the filling and serve hot.

Notes

Serve with coconut chutney and sambar for a complete meal.
